Application to Adopt
At Ten Lives, we do things differently. We do not have shelter services, and all our animals will have spent a minimum of four weeks in foster care with us before they are offered for adoption, so that they can be thoroughly health-checked (including vaccination, worming, neutering). During that time we get to know them, and can assess their personality and their likely future needs for their forever home. Our kittens are typically offered for adoption at around 12 weeks of age.
Foster care means that our animals have time to get used to the routines of a home setting, minimising stress for both the animal and their adopters. Most adapt really well, but some (particularly older kittens and adult cats) take longer to adjust.
The homing fee is €140 per kitten, or €250 for two. This covers the basic veterinary costs of preparing a cat or kitten for adoption. It does not take into account the cost of rescue, rehabilitation or day to day expenses, such as food. As of January 2022, all our cats and kittens will be microchipped before leaving us. The microchip will be registered to their adopter once the kitten/cat is homed.
We recommend homing kittens in pairs wherever possible, especially if they are to be only cat in the home, or you are out of the house for long periods of time. Whilst having two kittens might sound like more work, it’s actually less – they entertain each other, and suffer less anxiety when homed with a littermate.
The purpose of the form below is to assist us in matching cats and kittens with their new owner as best we can, taking into account the preferences of the new adopter, as well as personality of the cat, environment, routine, etc – all the factors that contribute to a successful outcome.
